Update on Special Election - Early voting begins May 18, 2020

NOTICE TO THE VOTERS OF THE CITY OF CLEVELAND
Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has, once again, delayed the election previously scheduled for May 19, 2020 until June 9, 2020.  

The last day to register to vote in the June 9th election is May 11, 2020.

At this time, the State is encouraging voters to apply, through application, for an absentee ballot.

 The Special Election will be held June 9, 2020.

On March 14, 2020 Georgia Secretary of State Raffensperger postponed the presidential primary scheduled for March 24, 2020.  The new election date is June 9, 2020.  The change in the election date is due to Governor Kemp declaring a Public Health State of Emergency (declaration)

Statement from Secretary of State Elections Division

In accordance to the City of Cleveland's Code of Ordinances, the city follows the same guidelines as the State of Georgia Election Code Title 21.2 et seq and has followed suit with the state in postponing the special election for mayor.  The election will be held June 9, 2020 at First Baptist Church of Cleveland. 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in conjunction with the presidential primary, state, and county elections.

All persons who are not registered to vote and who desire to register to vote in the special election may register to vote through the close of business on Monday, May 11, 2020 at the White County Registrar’s Office 1241 Helen Hwy, Ste. 210-A, Cleveland GA 30528. 

Advanced voting will be held at Cleveland City Hall, 85 S. Main St. Cleveland GA 30528 May 18, 2020 through June 5, 2020 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m..

 Polls will open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on election day (June 9, 2020).
 
The State of Georgia Elections Division is encouraging ALL registered voters to apply for a ballot to be mailed to your home to help in the efforts of social distancing during this election period.  The Secretary of State's office has mailed out applications.  If you have not received an application, please click on the following link:  Absentee Ballot Application

If you are a White County resident/voter, please mail your completed absentee ballot application to
White County Registrar's Office

County Registrar, Ms. Lisa Manning, will insure you receive a paper ballot for the June 9, 2020 Election to include all county, state, and federal elections.  Ms. Manning will forward absentee applications to the city so that city residents will receive an absentee ballot for the office of mayor and council member seat ward 2.
